Jimmy Smallhorne
Jimmy Smallhorne was one of 8 children from a Roman Catholic family in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. He won a green card in a visa lottery and came to the United States. He worked in construction on building sites like many other immigrants (documented and otherwise), where he apparently thought up the idea for his indie, rather auteurish 2by4 (1998), which he made with the help of, among others, cinematographer Declan Quinn ("Leaving Las Vegas", "Vanya on 42nd Street", "Kama Sutra"), a brother of Irish-American actor Aidan Quinn. Smallhorne himself wrote, directed and acted in 2by4 (1998).
