~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ In the mid-1970s, Pons went from touring with the Mothers to a reunited version of the Turtles, then abandoned music, becoming the head videographer for the New York Jets football team, which job he held until the year 2000. At that time, the Jets changed from videotaping games to digital video, and Pons was offered a retirement package, which he accepted. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Not having to worry about money or work, Pons and his wife launched a new musical career as gospel performers, Pons having become a born-again Christian in the intervening years. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
