In Spring 2004 she caused a stir by posting details about her often kinky promiscuous sexual activities with older men, some of them married, whom she met while working for U.S. Senator R. Michael DeWine (Republican - Ohio), including sleeping with a high-level Republican who she claims paid her $400 for sex. Her posts raised eyebrows when she wrote that her meager salary as a congressional aide required her to live off the generous monetary gifts given to her by her multiple regular sex partners.

She was slated to appear in Playboy in late 2004. Since her firing, she has written a novel based on her experiences: The Washingtonienne: A Novel. In June 2005, Robert Steinbuch, who says that he is the lover Cutler referred to as "RS" on her blog, filed a lawsuit against her, seeking over $75,000 in damages. Steinbuch's complaint, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., describes the case as "a civil action for invasion of privacy for public revelation of private facts."
