Jesse McNally

Jesse McNally was a fictional character on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Appearing in the first two episodes, he was a friend of both Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris at the time that Buffy Summers transferred to Sunnydale High School. He had a crush on Cordelia Chase. The character was played by Eric Balfour.

Jesse was captured by The Master and his gang of vampires during an attempt to free the Master from his mystical prison. He was turned into a vampire in order to lure the Slayer into a trap. As a vampire, Jesse described his former human self as a "loser" and told Xander that he was happy with his change. Rupert Giles had earlier warned Xander that when he saw Jesse, he wouldn't be looking at his friend but rather at the creature that killed him. In the ensuing battle, the vampire Jesse was killed by Xander, by accident when a character rushing past pushed Jesse onto the stake that Xander was threatening him with.

It is rumored that Joss Whedon planned for Jesse to return for the seventh-season episode Conversations with Dead People to provide a dead person for Xander to talk to, but when Eric Balfour was unavailable, the Xander act was scratched.
