In a nine-season career, Dye is a .272 hitter with 161 home runs and 611 RBI in 1039 games. He made the American League All-Star team in 2000. After his breakout season in 1999 with the Kansas City Royals, Dye looked like an emerging superstar. Dye was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2001, where he continued to play well. However, in the 2001 American League Division Series, Dye fouled a ball off the plate which bounced back into his leg, breaking it. Dye struggled to return to form after the injury, and it is arguable he has never been the same since.
