Jeff Hackett
Jeff Hackett is a former NHL ice hockey goaltender. He was born June 1, 1968 in London, Ontario and played junior hockey there and for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. A butterfly style goaltender he was drafted in the second round of the 1987 NHL entry draft by the New York Islanders and played two seasons as their backup goaltender to Billy Smith and Kelly Hrudey. He was claimed by the San Jose Sharks in the 1991 expansion draft. In 1993 he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he played several seasons as Eddie Belfour's backup. In the 1996-97 he excelled and won the starters job from Belfour. In 1999 he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Jocelyn Thibault and spent several seasons as their top netminder. Popular with fans the last years in Montreal were plagued with injuries, and he eventually lost the starters job to Jose Theodore and was traded to the Boston Bruins in the 2002-03 season. Only spending a few months in Boston he signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers. During the 2003-04 season with Philadelphia Hackett began to suffer from vertigo that eventually forced him to announce his retirement from professional hockey in February 2004.
