Jasper, Alabama
Jasper is a city located in Walker County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 14,052. The city is the county seat of Walker County{{GR|6}}.

Jasper was once the world's leading producer of coal. It is the birthplace of famous TV and movie stars Polly Holliday and George Lindsey, the actor who played Goober on The Andy Griffith Show. It is also the birthplace of United States Senator John H. Bankhead II, former Speaker of the House William Brockman Bankhead, Alabama millionaire James Stanley Freeman and his son, famed World War II admiral James Shepherd Freeman, and home of the late Congressman Tom Bevill. The late actress Tallulah Brockman Bankhead lived for awhile at her father's home, Sunset, in Jasper as a child.

In years 1998, 1999, and 2000 Jasper held an annual Foothills Festival in celebration of the town's heritage. Unfourtunatly, the expense was too much for the small town, and they discontinued the festivals.
