Japan Transocean Air
Japan Transocean Air (日本トランスオーシャン航空 Nihon Toransuōshan Kōkū or JTA) is an airline subsidiary of Japan Airlines. It is headquartered in Naha, Okinawa, and specializes in services to smaller airports in the Ryukyu Islands. The airline was originally known as Southwest Air Lines (南西航空 Nansei Kōkū), and flew Convair 240s until the new capital infusion from JAL allowed it to upgrade to NAMC YS-11s, and eventually Boeing 737s. JTA occasionally lends aircraft to JAL in the event of equipment failure. JTA also provides maintenance services for JAL Group Boeing 737-400 aircraft. JTA owns 69.8% of Ryukyu Air Commuter.
