Janice Rand

In the original Star Trek television series Janice Rand (played by Grace Lee Whitney) served as a yeoman to Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in 2266, assisting him with his job. A love interest/sexual tension was hinted at between the two in the episode "Miri." At some point, for reasons never explained on screen, she left the Enterprise about midway through the first season of TOS. Rand later returned to the Enterprise in 2272 to serve as a transporter chief aboard the refitted vessel as seen in '. The character appeared several more times in the Trek franchise. In ' she briefly appeared in a Spacedock cafeteria during the return of the Enterprise. In 2293, now-Lieutenant Janice Rand served as communications officer under Captain Hikaru Sulu on board the USS Excelsior (NCC-2000) during ' and the ' episode "Flashback".
