~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Jango Fett is the legal father (and genetic twin) of the fictional Boba Fett character, made famous in '. Both father and son serve mainly as bounty hunters employed by the Empire for various purposes. In the Star Wars universe, Jango Fett was born in 68 BBY and died in 22 BBY. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Early years in the First Mandalorian Civil WarJango was orphaned on the planet of Concord Dawn, when his family is murdered by a faction of Mandalorians called the Death Watch. Jango was a young boy when the war between the True Mandalorians, led by Jaster Mereel, and a traitorous scion of their ranks, the Death Watch, led by Vizsla, begins. Jango is taken in by the Mandalorian leader, Jaster Mereel, after Jango helps the True Mandalorians escape from his family's farm, after the Death Watch set fire to the fields. Jaster trains Jango to be a warrior, and when Jaster is later murdered by Vizsla, the leader of the Death Watch, Jango avenges his death. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ascension as a bounty hunterWhen the war is over, the Mandalorians are all but extinct. The remaining few fleeing to the far reaches of the galaxy. Jango, using his combat skills, weaponry, and mercenary mindset, became a bounty hunter, piloting his ship, the Slave I. Jango soon becomes famous for his accomplishments throughout the galaxy, not least of which are the Jedi he killed during the final Mandalorian wars. Despite this, he typically presents himself as just a simple man trying to make a living. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Conspiracy with Darth TyranusAround the time of the Battle of Naboo, Jango is contacted by a man named Darth Tyranus, who offers him a bounty on his former padawan apprentice, Komari Vosa. Though Jango has to compete with Montross, a former Mandalorian traitor, he succeeds in defeating Vosa, partly with the help of a new ally, a novice bounty hunter named Zam Wesell. Tyranus is impressed; the bounty is a test to determine if the rumors of Jango's skills against a Jedi are true. In addition to the bounty on Vosa, Tyranus offers Jango a tempting sum of money for an unusual task: Jango is to be a template for an army of clones. Jango agrees, and soon millions of clones are created in his likeness at the cloning facility on Kamino. Jango, however, insists that one clone not be subjected to growth enhancement or personality alteration, so that Jango can raise him as a son. His wish was granted, and the clone is named Boba Fett. Contrary to his claims, Jango is aware that Tyranus is also former Jedi Master Count Dooku, the Separatist leader. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Jango does not fully retire from his career but he takes fewer jobs, and on Kamino, where he raises Boba in the Mandalorian ways, he assists the Kaminoans in developing training programs for the Clone troopers. Their armor is even based on the Mandalorian armor Jango wore. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ten years after the cloning process begins, Jango is hired to assassinate Senator Padm? Amidala. The plot fails, and Jango is forced to murder his partner, Zam Wesell, to keep his identity secret. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi traces one of Jango's weapons, a saberdart, to Kamino, and learns of the clone army, of which the Jedi have been previously unaware. Jango and Kenobi initially meet on civil terms, but when Kenobi tries to intercept Jango for further questioning, they grapple in a seesawing duel until Kenobi appears to fall into the stormy ocean. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Pursuit and confrontationJango and Boba escape in the Slave I, but Kenobi tracks them to Geonosis, where he learns that Jango and Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus) are in league with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Kenobi is captured and sentenced to death in the arena for espionage, as are Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, who have come to rescue him. Count Dooku, Nute Gunray, Gilramos Libkath, Jango, and his son Boba are special guests of the Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Lesser and watch the execution from a private box. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The execution ceremony is disrupted by the arrival of Mace Windu and several other Jedi, and a massive battle breaks out between the Jedi and the CIS's battle droids. Jango joins the melee and even kills Jedi Council member Coleman Trebor, but he is ultimately beheaded by Windu in combat due to jetpack damage. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ LegacyJango never lives to see his clones participate in the Clone Wars, which tear the galaxy apart and clear the way for the Galactic Empire. Nor does he ever see his son Boba continue his bounty hunting legacy, using his father's weapons and ship, as well as the suit of Mandalorian armor once worn by Jaster Mereel. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It is ironically fitting that the Clone troopers would be created from him, as early in the pre-production of The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett was designed with a white armor and intended to be a "super Stormtrooper," from the Mandalore system. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
