Janet met future husband Wayne Gretzky when she was a judge on Merv Griffin's show "Dance Fever" in 1984. In 1987 they began dating, and on July 17, 1988 they were wed at a lavish ceremony at St. Joseph's Basilica in Edmonton. Janet was four months pregnant with Paulina at the time. The nuptuals were dubbed "The Royal Wedding" by the press, and the ceremony was broadcast live across Canada. Purportedly this event cost Gretzky $1,000,000, including $40,000 for Janet's wedding dress.
