Janakpur
Janakpur is one of the 14 zones of Nepal.The headquarters of Janakpur Zone is in Janakpur City. It is a city that carries the age old history of Hinduism. The city was the capital city of the King Janak, a father in law of Lord Rama , the son of the then King of Ayodhya, Dashrath. The city was then called 'Mithila Nagari'.

The language of this region is known as Maithili. It is the second most popular language in Nepal. Janakpur hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year who come mostly from the Hindu families of India. Janakpur is especially known as the city of Ponds which are popularly called ' Kundas' or 'Sagar'. The city really carries interesting facts for anyone who wants to know about Hindu religion.

Janaki Temple is the main attraction of Janakpur. It is the biggest temple in Nepal in terms of its size. The temple was built by the then queen of Tikam Garh,the then kingdom that presently lies in the state of Madhya Pradesh of India, as an offering to the God when her desire to be mother was fulfilled. It is said that she spent about nine hundred thousand bucks of that time to erect the temple. The temple is really a beautiful piece of architecture for anyone interested in the research of ancient design and arts.
