Janaki Ramachandran
Janaki, as she was popularly known, was married to and starred opposite M.G. Ramachandran, the Tamil actor-politician who for many years was chief minister of the state. When he died in 1987, his political party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, split between his wife and his longtime mistress, Jeyaram Jayalalitha, another of his leading ladies. Ramachandran became chief minister in 1988, but lasted just 24 days.
