James Coleman (sociologist)
James Coleman (1926-1995) was a famous sociologist at the University of Chicago who studied US schools segregation (and was the author of the "Coleman Report" of 1966) and crafted the rational choice theory of social capital.

Coleman viewed social capital as a productive form of capital that exists in the relationships between people. It has three forms: (1) obligations and expectations, (2) information channels, and (3) social norms.
