Its flight crews are based in Honolulu, Hawaii and are predominantly American, while its cabin attendants are trained and based in Bangkok, Thailand and are predominantly Asian. JALways operates independently of JAL, but shares livery and interline benefits: this is primarily to avoid the higher labor costs of JAL's Japanese crews and maintenance. Because JALways operates to resort locations, most JALways planes have the word "Reso`cha" (Super Resort Express) on the plane. Also, the flight attendant unifoms have a tropical theme. It is also not uncommon for JALways aircraft to be used on JAL routes.

On August 30th, 2005, a JALways flight from Fukuoka to Honolulu made an unscheduled landing at Kansai International Airport after warning lights indicating a system malfunction went off twice, once prior to takeoff. The passengers were put up in a hotel for the night, and the following day were taken to their original destination. No one was hurt or killed.
