Jalal-Abad Province


 

Jalal-Abad Province (Kyrgyz: Жалал-Абад областы) is a province (oblast) of Kyrgyzstan. Its capital is Jalal-Abad.

The area has several mountain lakes, walnut forests, and mineral waters. It has also the worlds largest natural growing walnut woods, called Arslanbob, which covers a large part of the region. The integral part of the country's power system is Toktogul hydro powers station which supplies with the electric power and water both Kyrgyzstan and neighboring republics.

People in this region grow wheat, fruit, vegetables, maize, nuts, tobacco and silk-worm cocoons. It has also a few light-industry plants and hydroelectric stations. Minerals, natural gas, coal, metals and oil mining is found here, most notably in the town, Kochkor-Ata, which is home to numerous domestic and non-domestic oil companies.

Sary-Chelek is a nature reserve in the Jalal-Abad Province with a beautiful alpine lake surrounded with wild fruit orchards and peaks. There are unlimited trekking possibilities in the area that face a problem of a lack of infrastructure.

A few soviet-time resorts offer special mineral water treatment programs for people with various chronic deseases. Also number of companies succeed in trading bottled mineral water around the country and abroad.
