Jack of all trades, master of none

A saying meaning someone that tries to be competent in all endeavors, but excels at none of them. One such example is the Charlatan in Age of Wonders. Also, wikipedia itself could be considered a "Jack of all trades, master of none" since it has information on all subjects, but doesn't have exceptional information on any.

The full expression is 'Jack of all trades, master of none, ofttimes better than master of one.', perhaps highlighting the advantage of adaptability over specialisation, best demonstrated by our survival as a race.
