Jeffery Atkins (born February 29, 1976, Hollis, Queens, New York City), better known as Ja Rule (Jeffery Atkins Represents Unconditional Love Exists), is a rapper who made a string of popular hip hop songs in the 2000's

Voice

Ja Rule is especially noted for his gruff, gravelly voice, which has been described as "sandpaper" and "laryngitis", as well as one of the best voices in recent hip-hop. Numerous comparisons have been made to the similar-sounding DMX, which eventually started a hip-hop feud between the former friends. His rough vocals are often used in a more flowing, less rapping style alongside female R&B singers in what has led 50 Cent to dub Ja Rule "the singing rapper", despite Ja Rule claiming in the past that he likes rapping because he doesn't have to sing.
