Island County is a county located in the state of Washington. As of 2000, the population is 71,558. The county seat is at Coupeville. Its largest city is Oak Harbor.

Its name reflects the fact that it consists of just two islands, Whidbey and Camano. Island County was created out of Thurston County on January 6, 1853, by the legislature of Oregon Territory, and is the 8th oldest county in Washington. Island County originally encompassed what are now Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom County, and San Juan Counties.
