Irv Kupcinet


 

Irv Kupcinet (July 31, 1912-November 10, 2003) was a Chicago Sun-Times columnist and broadcast personality based in Chicago, Illinois. He was popularly known by the nickname "Kup".

His daily "Kup's Column" was launched in 1943, providing readers with inside gossip on local and national celebrities and political figures. It remained a fixture in the Sun-Times for the next six decades.

Kupcinet became a pioneer in the television talk show genre. His program, which was known at various times as At Random and Kup's Show, aired on Saturday nights for 27 years and earned him 15 local Emmy Awards and a Peabody. For many years Kupcinet also teamed with Jack Brickhouse on the Chicago Bears' radio broadcasts.
