Irish diaspora
The Irish diaspora consists of Irish emigrants and their descendants in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and nations of the Caribbean and continental Europe. The diaspora contains over 80 million people.

There are also large Irish communities in every EU member state as well as Japan, Argentina and Brazil. The diaspora was caused by a number of factors, including political oppression, joblessness, and hunger in a sometimes harsh land.
