Originally the label was created for the sole purpose of releasing the first Fantômas album. However, it quickly became a home for sludge-rock pioneers The Melvins, releasing several new albums as well as beginning to re-release their classics. Patton's personal taste comes through in the variety of eclectic bands which have since been signed to the label, coming from an incredible expanse of genres. Some of the most prominent include electronic legend kid606, noise-rap experimentalists Dälek, and the unique metal up-and-comers Isis. Ipecac has quickly gained the reputation as a distributor of some of the most unique and technically impressive artists, with its notoriety rapidly increasing in cult circles.
