The Embarcadero Freeway was an elevated, double-deck freeway in San Francisco,_California. Signed as Interstate 480, it ran slightly over a mile from the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge along the downtown waterfront, known locally as the Embarcadero. It was originally planned to continue north, creating a freeway link between the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge; however, the freeway was never extended past Broadway due to the Freeway Revolt. In 1985 the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to tear down the freeway and it was finally demolished after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
