Interpretation of quantum mechanics
An interpretation of quantum mechanics is an attempt to answer the question: what exactly is quantum mechanics talking about? quantum mechanics, as a scientific theory, has been very successful in predicting experimental results. This means, first, that there is a well-defined correspondence between the elements of the (abstract, mathematical) formalism and experimental procedures and, second, that the results obtained from these experiments are in extremely close agreement with the formalism. Therefore, that the basic question as to what quantum mechanics means is still posed in itself requires some explanation.
