International News Service (INS) was a news agency founded by William Randolph Hearst in 1909. It merged in 1959 with United Press to become United Press International.

Jack Singer was a war correspondent for the U.S. Navy aboard the USS WASP working for the INS during World War II. The WASP was an aircraft carrier that was sunk in the Pacific in 1942. Jack was one of 193 men that died that day when the ship went down. He was awarded the Purple Heart and had a liberty ship named after him, the USS Jack Singer.
