International Brigades

The International Brigades were Republican military units in the Spanish Civil War, formed of many non-state sponsored volunteers of different countries who travelled to Spain, to fight for the legitimate, elected government in the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. They fought against Spanish Nationalist forces, led by General Francisco Franco, and assisted by Nazi German and fascist Italian forces.
