Interface Message Processor
The Interface Message Processor was the packet-switching node (actually a mini-computer with special-purpose interfaces) used to make up the ARPANET in the late 1960s and 1970s. To connect to the ARPANET, host computers connected to IMPs using a special high-speed bit-serial interface.
