The lake itself is man made and has a very shallow average depth no greater than 6 feet. Without constant dredging of silt and muck from the bottom, the lake would fill up and become a wetlands. Stumps are prevalent in several areas and can cause a hazard for boaters to this day. The primary purpose of the lake today is recreation; fishing and boating being the most common activities. The lake is stocked with fish including Saugeye, and several fishing tournaments are held there each year.
