In My Tribe

In My Tribe is the breakthrough album by folk-rock band 10,000 Maniacs. Without John Lombardo, who was Natalie Merchant's partner on writing the songs of the other albums and left the band in 1986, Natalie started new partnerships in writing songs with the other members of the band, being the one with Robert Buck the most constant and prolific. In My Tribe became a sensation upon its release in 1987 (see 1987 in music) and received rave reviews.

In 1989, the track "Peace Train" was removed from the US CD version after the song's composer, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) was alleged to have made statements supporting Ayatollah Khomeini's fatwa against Salman Rushdie. The song remains on all vinyl copies and CDs released outside America . Later, the song was included in the 2004 two cds compilation, "Campfire Songs", released on January 27th by Elektra/Asylum/Rhino Records.
