Impeachment in the United States
In the United States impeachment at the federal level can apply only to those accused of "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors". The removal of such officers takes place automatically upon conviction. Impeachment can also occur in the United States at the state level; state legislatures can impeach state officials, including governors.
