Founded Oct. 16, 1964, in the Chicago suburb of Berwyn, Illinois the band was named after the historical Ides of March.

The band had a regional hit in 1966 with "You Wouldn't Listen".

In 1969 the band added horns to their lineup. This change to their sound was evident when Peterik wrote and sang the dynamic "Vehicle", which became a national hit in 1970 and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After a few more regional hits, most notably "L.A. Goodbye" , the group took a sabbatical in 1973. Peterik went on to found the band Survivor.

The band reconvened in 1990 with all of the original members (including Peterik) and maintains a regular touring and recording schedule.

"Vehicle" is a staple of oldies radio stations, was included at length in the soundtrack to the Sylvester Stallone film Lock Up, and in 2005 became the signature song of American Idol contestant Bo Bice.
