The human condition is a term which encompasses the totality of the experience of being human and living human lives. As mortal entities, there are a series of biologically determined events which are common to most human lives, and the way humans react to or cope with these events is the human condition. Philosophically, a major part of the human condition is trying to figure out just what the human condition is, a riddle that appears locked within itself.

The term is sometimes used in literature to describe the joy and terror of being and existence. The term may have gained popular currency with The Human Condition, a film trilogy directed by Masaki Kobayashi which examined these and related concepts.
