Hugh Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding

The Right Honourable Hugh Caswell Tremenheere Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding GCB, GCVO, CMG (24 April 1882 - 15 February 1970) was a British officer in the Royal Air Force. He was the commander of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain.

Dowding was born in Moffat, Scotland. He was educated at Winchester College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and later served abroad in the Royal Artillery.
