Hue and Cry (1947)
Hue & Cry was a British feature film released in 1947 by Ealing Studios, directed by Charles Crichton. It is widely cited as the first of the famous Ealing comedy films, which brought both a new sophistication and a new earthyness to British comedy films. However, Hue & Cry is better characterised as a thriller for children. Shot almost entirely on location, it is now a notable historic document due to its vivid portrait of a war-damaged London. London forms the backdrop of a crime-gangster plot which revolves around a working-class children's street culture and children's secret clubs.
