~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He released his first album, Australia, independently in 2000; it was re-released in 2002 when he was signed to Epic Records, and the track "Ghost" was a minor hit on modern rock radio. He opened for Tori Amos during the first leg of her 2002 Scarlet's Walk North American and European tours. In 2003 he released his second full-length album, Stop All the World Now. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Two of his songs have been featured on the television show Scrubs, "She Says" from the album Australia and "Collide" from the album Stop All the World Now, from the episodes "My New Old Friend" (2.12) and "My Boss's Free Haircut" (4.20) respectively. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Howie Day has developed a fan base throughout the years due to his solo shows. Unlike most solo performers who perform mainly with just an acoustic guitar, Howie Day uses various foot pedals to enhance his playing and "loop" chords. This "looping effect" allows him to build up a song by playing rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, and even tap on his guitar to produce a drum sound. When the whole process is complete, it sounds as if a full band was on stage. Howie Day also uses this process on his voice, harmonizing with himself. The whole process is done in front of the audience in real time as opposed to pre-recording--a common misconception among audience members seeing Howie Day for the first time. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Howie Day also has built a huge fan base by allowing his concerts to be audio recorded. Fans then go to websites such as http://www.thehdtb.com (the Howie Day Trading Board) and trade shows or request shows that they would like to have. Fans will notice that, though Howie Day usually plays similar set lists, every song is played differently due to Howie's creative looping. Audio recording has been allowed as long as shows are not sold for profit. Fans are very protective of these shows as to not reduce their quality to MP3 format or quickly contacting ebay when shows are attempting to be sold at auction. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Not only are Howie Day fans loyal to him, Howie Day is equally as loyal to his fans. He frequently and willingly signs autographs after performances and gets pictures taken with his fans. He performs shows exclusively for fans that have helped spread the word about Howie Day through flyers, stickers, selling of CD's, and voluntarily helping to sell merchandise at Howie Day shows. These exclusive "rep shows" are usually at small, intimate settings such as coffee houses with usually about 20-30 people. Ironically, these are the same places that Howie Day played at before his album "Stop All the World Now" began getting significant recognition and allowed Howie Day to now sell out large venues in major cities such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
