Household Cavalry Regiment
The Household Cavalry Regiment is an armoured regiment of the British Army, one of two that are formed from the Household Cavalry. The regiment is not part of the Royal Armoured Corps; instead it is a regiment of guards, but serves alongside the line cavalry regiments as one of the five formation reconnaissance regiments. The regiment is equipped with various vehicles including the FV107 Scimitar, and currently serves as the formation reconnaissance regiment assigned to 1 Reconnaissance Brigade, which provides reconnaissance to 3rd (UK) Mechanised Division. The regiment was formed in 1992 through the Options for Change reforms by the amalgamation of the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals. The HCR has two squadrons from each; however, because of their history, both regiments are permitted to maintain their traditions. One squadron is assigned to the airborne role with 16 Air Assault Brigade.
