~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ HotWired broke new ground when it started offering content sponsored by advertisers. The first advertiser, who used an ad banner, was AT&T, which was promoting future innovation under the "You will" ad campaign. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The site launched shortly before PathFinder, Time magazine's commercial web content offering, and featured web-based threaded discussions. As the site aged, a number of projects and sites were published under the HotWired banner, including HotBot, Suck, and Webmonkey.
