Hornsey lent its name to a district council, covering a wider area than the "village" of Hornsey itself, until the creation of the London Borough of Haringey. The area is in the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency.

The area has two secondary schools. One formally known as St. David and St. Katherines (D&K), now after poor acheievement rates the school was reopened as an academy and renamed as Greig City Academy, www.greigcityacademy.co.uk . The second of which is Hornsey school for Girls, this is the second (and sometimes the third) best in the league tables for Haringey. Hornsey is the base of Hornsey Housing Trust, local Haringey housing association and provider of care and support for older people.
