Homemaker
A homemaker is a person whose prime occupation is to care for their family and home. The term homemaker is used in preference to either housewife or househusband because it is inclusive, defines the role in terms of activities, rather than relation to another, and is independent of marital status. The terms stay-at-home mother and stay-at-home father are also used.
Modern Housewives
Many modern women are embracing the near-forgotten role of housewife. These women have often come to the conclusion that the family unit and household function better with a defined division of labor. While past generations of women have sought to leave the home and enter the business world, many of the current generation are leaving the business world to care for hearth and home. Because most modern housewives have not learned homemaking skills from their mothers and grandmothers, many are looking to women role models such as Martha Stewart and Marla Cilley (also known as "FlyLady") to guide them. Many women are also looking to the internet to learn homemaking skills and to converse with and support other homemakers.
