Holzminden


 
 

Holzminden is a city in Lower Saxony with a population of 22,000 (2002). It is located on the River Weser, and is capital of the District of Holzminden.

Holzminden was first mentioned in the 9th century as Holtesmeni; however, the name did originally not refer to the later city, but to the village of Altendorf, which was incorporated to the city in 1922.

Holzminden itself was founded around 1200 as a planned city by the counts of Everstein.
