Holsted


 
 

Holsted is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Ribe County on the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 190 km?, and has a total population of 6,965 (2005). Its mayor is Carl Aaskov, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Holsted.

Neighboring municipalities are Br?rup to the east, Billund, Grindsted, and Helle to the north, Bramming and Ribe to the west, and R?dding to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Holsted municipality will cease to exist due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Br?rup, R?dding, and Vejen municipalities to form the new Vejen municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 817 km? and a total population of 41,350 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
