Holocaust denial

"Holocaust denial" refers to the claims of a small number of amateur historians, as well as politically interested individuals and groups, who argue that the Holocaust did not occur as it is defined by mainstream historical science (the systematic killing of about 6 million Jews through intentional means, including the use of gas chambers). Holocaust deniers differ in methods and arguments -- some claim that far fewer Jews were actually killed during the Holocaust, or that the Jews were not intentionally targeted, or that the concept of the Holocaust as a whole is a Jewish conspiracy -- but all minimize or negate the Holocaust. Holocaust deniers typically willfully misuse or ignore historical records in order to attempt to prove their conclusions. Such claims have led a number of experts, historians, and witnesses to forcefully debunk them and their authors. Holocaust denial is illegal in a number of European countries, as it is considered to be motivated by, and promoting, an anti-semitic agenda.

While the term "denier" is objected to by the people to whom it is applied, who prefer "revisionist", it is nevertheless the one commonly used to refer to those espousing such views, to distinguish them from the legitimate approach of historical revisionists.
