Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania
Hollidaysburg is a borough located in Blair County, Pennsylvania, on the Juniata River, 7 Miles (11 km) south of Altoona. On the outskirts of Hollidaysburg are the Ant Hill Woods, famous for their colony of ants. Coal, iron ore, ganister, and limestone are found in the vicinity. In the past, the borough had foundries and machine shops, a silk mill, car works and classification yards. In 1900, 2,998 people lived in the borough. In 1910, 3,734 lived there, and in 1940, 5,910 residents were counted. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 5,368. It is the county seat of Blair County{{GR|6}}.
Demographics
As of the census{{GR|2}} of 2000, there are 5,368 people, 2,224 households, and 1,349 families residing in the borough. The population density is 874.5/km² (2,261.0/mi²). There are 2,392 housing units at an average density of 389.7/km² (1,007.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.19% White, 0.82% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,224 households out of which 26.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% are married couples living together, 12.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the borough the population is spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.8 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $36,758, and the median income for a family is $43,209. Males have a median income of $33,315 versus $24,627 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $20,634. 8.8% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.9% of those under the age of 18 and 7.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
