Hobnail
Hobnail can mean:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
- a short nail with a thick head; used to increase the durabibility the soles of boots.
- hobnail boots, which have been used since antiquity for inexpensive, durable footwear, often by the military. Hobnails are usually installed in a regular pattern over the entire sole and also, to a lesser degree than cleats, provide some traction. Now obsoleted by treads, hobnail boots might still be used to emphasize a rough, primitive style.
- a pattern of glasswear (sometime called Fenton Hobnail) where the body of the piece has a regular array of bumps, as if finished with glass hobnails
- A musical band in New Zealand, called Hobnail Boots
