- The first Eagle was the French ship Aigle, captured in 1650 and taken into the Navy, then sold in 1655.
- The tenth Eagle was a 3rd rate ship of the line that was attacked by the submersible Turtle during the American Revolution.
- The fourteenth Eagle was an early aircraft carrier, converted from an unfinished Chilean battleship Almirante Cochrane and launched in 1918, and sunk in 1942.
- A 36,800 ton Audacious class carrier to be named Eagle was laid down on 19 April 1944, but cancelled the following year.
- The fifteenth Eagle (R05) was one of the Navy's largest aircraft carrier, in service from 1951 to 1972.
