Hit and run (vehicular)

Hit and run is the illegal act of hitting an object, such as a pedestrian, parked car, or mailbox, with a vehicle and immediately leaving the location of the incident, or failing to stop after being involved in a traffic accident. The usual reason for the leaving of the scene is to evade capture by the police, avoid exchanging insurance information, or otherwise escape punishment. Hit and run has severe legal consequences. In some countries this leads to a perpetual bar from getting a driving licence.
