History of Texas

The history of Texas or Texas history began around 10,000 BC when the first humans arrived in what is now Texas. Its history has been shaped by being part of six independent countries, Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, and the Confederacy. Before the arrival of Europeans, the state was meeting point of many Native American cultural groups, notably the Plains and Southeastern cultural groups. In recent history the state has been shaped by the interactions of Mexican, Southern, Southwestern, and Tejano culture.
