Generally, high-definition refers to an increase in resolution or clarity

  • High-definition television
  • Historically, the phrase "high-definition television" referred to any significant increase in resolution. NTSC was once considered high-definition, as were other formats.
  • In the modern sense, such as in the ATSC,DVB and ISDB formats.
  • The HD Radio name for iBiquity's digital radio system is often expanded to "high-definition radio" (unnecessarily, some would argue)
