Herstal is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Liège. On January 1, 2005 Herstal had a total population of 36,832. The total area is 23.54 km² which gives a population density of 1,564.56 inhabitants per km².

It is the birthplace of Charles Martel, victor of the decisive Battle of Tours that stopped the Arab-Muslim advance into northwestern Europe.
