Herrsching
A city in Upper Bavaria on the east shore of the Ammersee, full name Herrsching am Ammersee. Located southwest of Munich at 48 degrees latitude and 11 degrees 10 minutes longitude. Situated at one terminus of the Munich S-bahn line S5, the town is popular with travelers for its watersports and as the starting point of trips to the Benedictine monastery Kloster Andechs. Herrsching is also a stop for touring steamships of the Bavarian Seenschiffahrt or lake fleet. Notable sights include the lakefront promenade (at about 10 km, the longest in Germany), the Kurparkschlossl (built in 1888 by the artist Ludwig Scheuermann), St. Martin's church, and the Archaeological Park (7th century settlement by the Bajuwari, the Teutonic tribe that gave Bavaria its name). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
